Are Delta 9 (Delta-9 THC) Products Legal in NC?

Delta 9 THC

Learn more about delta 9 or delta 9 THC, delta 9 in North Carolina, delta 8

If you’ve shopped with us before, then you may have noticed a few new products hit our shelves. Specifically, delta 9 THC edibles. What is delta 9 THC? Delta 9 THC is the primary psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana products. In fact, when lawmakers, law enforcement and cannabis producers talk about THC, they’re usually talking about delta 9.

Isn’t Delta 9 THC Illegal in NC?

While marijuana is still illegal in the state of North Carolina, the Federal 2018 Farm Bill allows any cannabis products derived from hemp to contain up to 0.3 percent delta 9 THC by volume. That goes for any hemp-derived vaping products, flower, tincture, edibles and topicals. Any cannabis product labeled as “full spectrum” will contain 0.3 percent delta 9 THC.

When compared to the average marijuana strain containing 15-20 percent delta 9 THC, 0.3 percent doesn’t sound that exciting. But, that’s where the word “volume” comes into play. Let’s take our new Urb Effex delta 9 THC gummies for example.

By volume, each gummy contains 0.3 percent of delta 9 THC, but because of the size of each gummy, they still yield 15mg of delta 9 THC according to their lab test results, which is typically a mild to medium dose for the average cannabis consumer. They also don’t contain any other cannabinoids that would lessen the THC’s effects.

What About Other Full Spectrum Products?

All full spectrum cannabis products will contain up to 0.3 percent delta 9 THC, along with various amounts of other cannabinoids like CBD, CBN or CBG depending on the product. Because those other cannabinoids are present in much higher concentrations, they tend to cancel out the possible effects from the THC.

Let’s take Liberty CBD’s 10mg fruit chews for example. Each gummy is full spectrum, meaning they contain 0.3 percent of THC, but because of the high concentration of CBD and the smaller size of the gummy, the actual THC yield on each gummy averages to only about 0.3mg according to their lab test results. Even with higher delta 9 THC amounts, the higher concentration of CBD will cancel out any possible effects of THC.

Are Delta 9 Products Safe?

As with any cannabis product we carry, they have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA. Just like delta 8 THC, delta 9 is a natural cannabinoid and is not synthetically produced. Before trying any cannabis products, consult with your doctor if you have concerns or questions.

Users typically report feelings of euphoria and calmness, increased appetite and a strong case of the giggles. Delta 9 THC’s effects are more potent than delta 8 THC, so please proceed with caution. We can ensure that every product in our store is third-party lab tested, USA made, properly vetted and of course, sampled by the Modern Apotheca team.
